Founded in 1923, Mott Community College (Mott) is a public community college based in Flint, MI. The college serves close to 6,000 part-time and full-time students in a range of degree and certificate programs.
The MSFCP was launched in September 2022, primarily targeting students in a variety of workforce and certificate programs. Participants in the MSFCP come from programs for underserved or at-risk students. Some students are in GED programs and others come from the YouthBuild program, which offers career training in areas such as construction and healthcare, providing credentials leading to employment opportunities.

Mott Success To Date
The MSFCP team partners with other campus services, such as the Lenore Croudy Family Life Center, which provides wrap-around services for students experiencing challenges related to food, housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare and other barriers to academic success. Since inception of the MSFCP program, the coaching team has worked with over 125 students to help them achieve an average increase in savings of $893 and other goals. These are significant accomplishments, since many students in the program are unemployed or underemployed.
Mott Innovative Practices
Mott has been able to build participation in the MSFCP by introducing recruiting practices which are integrated into various workforce programs. The coaches can sign up participants during weekly orientation sessions for various workforce and certificate program. They have also worked with the YouthBuild program to make it a requirement for incoming students to participate in coaching.
