BCC’s Course Based Model
BCC began offering the Money Smart Financial Coaching Program™ to students in January 2025, with a noncredit personal finance course, targeted to two cohorts of students. In the fall semester, 2025, in addition to the noncredit course offering, BCC redirected its approach and incorporated the MSFCP into a 1-credit, First Year Experience course, taken by incoming Business students. The content of the course combines typical first-year topics along with personal finance modules, and students in the course receive one-on-one financial coaching. Students sign up for coaching using an online scheduling tool. Since most of the students are right out of high school, the course emphasizes building good credit, saving, and budgeting. By spring 2026, BCC continued offering MSFCP through the 1-credit First Year Experience course and recruited male and female athletes into the noncredit personal finance course.
BCC Innovative Practices
The faculty member incorporates group and peer-learning activities into the class sessions, so that students have the benefit of learning from one another, as well as from the coaching sessions. BCC also includes the JPMorganChase Community Manager in selected class sessions, who shares real-life financial lessons.
