Renton Technical College
Yuliya enrolled at Renton Technical College to learn to speak English. New to the U.S. from Kazakhstan, she is a single mom, holds a bachelor’s degree in art from Kazakhstan, is fluent in Ukrainian, and needed a job to pay her expenses.
Yuliya enrolled in the MSFCP with a goal of saving money to buy a car and learn about credit. She learned to speak and write English very quickly and enrolled in Workfirst Office Assistant classes along with her English language courses. She completed the certificate in June and started working in the WorkFirst Work-Study program.
As a result of the financial coaching she received through the MSFCP, she was able to purchase a new vehicle. She also increased her wages from $16.46 to $23.45 per hour, opened a savings and checking account, ran her first credit report, and learned about building and managing credit. Yuliya’s dedication and follow-through on her financial goals have helped her be successful in college and in obtaining employment.
